Welcome, beloved. I’m KJ.
Your vocal presence mentor + ceremonial creative sidekick
The Cliffnotes:
For the past 11 years I have been in private practice helping people sing. My first clients dubbed me The Voice Doula and that title stuck.
I grew up extensively training/performing musical theater, as well as Gospel choirs.
I received a self-tailored degree in the Psychology of Performance as well as extensive studies in Expressive Arts Therapies. I’ve performed in deep the Peruvian jungle, high in the Swiss Alps, all throughout sub-Saharan Africa, and right here in my homelands (Cherokee and Nisenan territories).
If there is anything I’ve learned it is that no matter where you go, no matter what language people speak- people always remember how they felt around you. And that comes from a highly attuned, highly available voice and presence.
✔ I am a strong believer that most technique issues resolve themselves when underlying energetics/patterns are properly addressed. I go directly to the root so you have lasting results.
✔ I lead with curiosity and care, not perfection. No shaming here.
✔ With 9 self-produced albums of original music released and 3 sold-out solo theater performances, I have walked my talk.
✔ I come with extensive training and experience as a birth doula and holistic dominatrix (you heard that right). Holding people in super vulnerable states so they can access their own power is my greatest expertise and highest joy.
REALITY CHECK. There’s literally a million voice coaches/teachers out there.
Here’s what makes me different:
On a personal note…
I know what its like to judge the shit out of your own voice.
As a young teen, I spent years in extensive classical vocal training, leaving me with a hungry inner perfectionist and a critic who would not give up. Only after years of sobbing in my university’s basement practice rooms did I begin to untangle the seemingly endless layers of vocal shame. My unlearning became just as thorough as my “learning” and I finally began to sound like who I always wanted to sound like- myself.
Why am I telling you this? You need to know right now you do not have to sob by yourself to untangle all the knots in your heart about your voice. You need consistent support from someone who’s been there.
That’s precisely where I come in.
